Nearly 160 projects have been exhibited by as many teams from 60 schools in the district, which makes it the largest ever science-projects exhibition in the district.

The theme of the exhibition is "Role of industries and technology in rural development," and the sub-themes are "Environment management," "Role of industries in development of rural areas," "Landmarks in science," "Role of communication and information technology in education" and "Mathematical models."

Delivering the keynote address, District Science and Technology Committee Secretary K.V. Rao said that there is no dearth of scientific talent among rural children, but facilities to harness it need to be improved. If teachers in rural areas can bring about the facilities in their community schools it will immensely help the children.

The Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, M. Mohan Alva, said that Indian society's traditional knowledge base should be utilised to provide children with "workable science models."

He also called upon the children to not to forget one's own culture and traditions in their pursuit of scientific and technological accomplishments.
