Stress laid to replicate e-governance success across India

Standardisation and localisation in implementing the e-government policies is called for due to the economic diversity existing in different regions in India.

“India has had islands of success in e-governance like Railways, customs and income tax, etc. Now the time has come to replicate this success across the country,” said S Lakshminarayanan, Ministry of Home Affairs Inter-State Council Secretariat Secretary, Government of India.

He was speaking at the three-day conference on e-governance 'Conflux 2005', which began today at New Delhi. He added that standardization and localization in implementing the e-governance policies is called for due to the economic diversity existing in different regions in India.

The main objective of 'Conflux 2005' is to showcase e-government developments in India and the Asia Pacific and earn from the successful practices in the region.

The event is also expected to provide a knowledge-sharing platform and a forum for policymakers, practitioners, industry leaders and academicians for converting e-government vision into actionable program.

The conference would discuss issues on rural computing, e-panchayat, IT in agriculture, education, health and e-governance for various citizen services.

Chief Information Commissioner designate Wajahat Habibullah said that for right to information act to succeed, e-governance should reach the grass root level.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) (Delhi), NASSCOM Delhi, department of IT, government of India, etc. are some of the organisations supporting the event.
