Need for more work in Chandigarh for successful implementation of RTI

The Janata Party’s city chief Ajay Jagga said the Union Territory (UT) Administration was hesitant in implementing the Right to Information Act in its true spirit.

Addressing a press conference, Jagga said the Act has been in force for the last 10 days, but the Administration has not done its homework as regards its implementation in the UT.

He said VAT, which has not been implemented in Chandigarh, only concerned a section of society, but the Right to Information concerns everyone.

Jagga said the Act was passed by Parliament, but even the local MP had shown no interest in ensuring its implementation.

He also said that the Administration had failed to provide the public the information required under the Act, which conveys that they are in not serious about implementing this Act to ensure transparency.

He said the Act has not been published for the common man.
