National workshop on exploring the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the Teaching of English-
Challenges and Opportunities (Sponsored by the University Grants Commission) 24-25 November,2005 at the Mahatma Gandhi College,Trivandrum, Kerala, India .
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs),used appropriately and imaginatively, have been found to be a suitable resource to promote, enhance and support learning on account of its limitless potential vis-à-vis conventional methods.
It has been made known through objective assessments and analysis that the use of ICTs makes a distinctive contribution to teaching and learning English. ICTs can be used to integrate listening, speaking, reading and writing tasks. It enhances the effectiveness of interactive teaching and learning styles. It also extends students’ ability to exercise choice, work independently and make connections between their work in English and in other subjects. Used both as a medium and as a tool, ICT has unique potential to extend and accelerate pupils' learning in English.
-To explore the diverse ICT options available for improving English Language teaching and learning , with particular reference to India.
-To look into various aspects of content development for ELT and Content Learning depositories and explore possibilities of formulating self study materials for students.
-To look into effective strategies of integrating ICTs into the English Language classroom.
-To formulate various capacity building/ orientation programmes for teachers including e-learning ,real-time hands-on support etc.
-To stimulate critical debate on and research into theories, approaches, principles and applications of ICTs in the use of teaching English.
-To share local and international developments, experiences and lessons learned.
-To facilitate dialogue, sharing and networking between academics and experts working in the area of emerging technologies.
Call for papers
Papers on the above themes or related aspects are invited.
Papers may be on accomplished research results, assessments of projects/work-in-progress or fresh concepts, preliminary research results, case studies and the like.
