It's taken over two years for Zambia to issue an ICT policy document. That might sound a long time but it took Ghana over four years and Florence Etta, formerly of IDRC estimated that it has taken Kenya 12 years. When it is issued, Zambia will become Africa's 29th country to have a policy of this sort.
According to local sources, the document will be officially launched next month. In September the President of the Republic of Zambia Levy Patrick Mwanawasa gave an ultimatum to the Ministry of Communication and Transport to ensure that the document is released in the shortest possible time.
The ICT policy document is an important document that will help the Information Technology (I.T) industry to grow, and most importantly signal hoiw the Government intends to achieve wider access to ICT for its citizens.
