Emergency phone number for shortage of water supply in Sharjah

The residents of Abu Shagara area who are facing water shortage or disconnection in the supply should not hesitate to contact th emergency phone number of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) for redressal of the problem, said Engineer Mohammed Khalifa bin Taresh, Director of the Water Department at Sewa.

'Sewa officials will take immediate action provided complaints are received on the emergency number and callers leave proper details abou their location,” he said.

“Sudden water disconnection in apartments cannot always be blamed on Sewa,' he said, adding: 'Somtimes water shortage in buildings is caused due to any internal problem like some thing going wrong with water tank in the building.'

Engineer Mohammed Khalifa bin Taresh said that since they were not currently facing any problems in any of the water desalination units at Al Leyah Power and Water Desalination Station, they could not be blamed for the disrupted water supply.

“While dealing with some of the complaints lodged earlier, we found out that water shortage was occuring due to a problem in the pipes of the tanks supplying water. The fitting inside the water tank was very small to store more of water, which reduced the supply of water to homes,” he said.

The Sewa official urged the owners of residential buildings in Sharjah to ensure that the fittings placed inside the water tanks are large enough to store extra water to meet the 24-hour demand.
