Swaminathan presents Mission 2007 before the global community

November 15, 2005, ITU Connect the World Launch Pad, Kram Palexpo, Tunis:

M S Swaminathan, the chief architect of the world’s largest telecentre upsacling programme, spoke at length here in the ITU’s Connect the World Launch Pad. As expected, ITU’s Connect the World Launch Pad becomes the centre stage of attention as world information society leaders representating the governments, private sectors and civil society organisations are going to forge innovative partnerships to bring the ICTs to the underprivileged sections of the society.

The meeting started at about 3 pm today with an introductory speech by B. Shadrach with the presence of Walter Fust, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Loius Blios, International Telecommunications Union, Kastoory Boobathy, Grassroots Knowledge Worker, Rinalia Abdul Rahim, Global Knowledge Partnership, Richard Fuchs, International Development Research Centre, N. Vijayaditya, National Informatics Centre, Nitin Desai, Special Adviser to the Secretary General of the WSIS, Asish Sen, VOICES, Namrata Bali, Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), Ahmedabad, S. Arunachalam, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, A. Parthasarathy, Journalist, Lee Thorn, Jhai Foundation, Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, among many others.

Altogether, the event has been very interactive as the screening of the Mission 2007 film has captivated the audience. As we have been unfolding the concepts and rationale behind the Mission 2007 and how it works through a multi-stakeholder partnership platform, participants from other countries shared their views about the initiative.
