The Government is implementing `e-panchayat' project in 450 gram panchayats in the State and 14 major panchayats in Kadapa district,Andhra Pradesh said Deputy Director-General of National Informatics Centre C.S.R. Prabhu.
Addressing a workshop on the project for panchayat secretaries and sarpanches, Mr. Prabhu said a broadband project would be introduced in the district soon and it would increase data transfer speed.
E-panchayat was aimed at equipping rural folk with comprehensive and updated information in panchayats and ensuring transparency in governance. Issue of birth and death certificates, house tax, pension schemes, SGRY development works and details of beneficiaries would be computerised. Data on gram panchayats could be easily obtained through internet using software developed by NIC and would benefit people, he said.
Besides panchayat information, education avenues and data on tourist places, employment opportunities to unemployed rural youth, stock exchange and economic development, Mr. Satyaprakash said. NIC State Technical Director B.M. Rao, District Informatics Officer B. Venkatasubba Rao, took part.
