Launched yesterday by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the e-Innovations Wiki is offering an electronic channel to further discussions on innovation in local government.
The site - http://e-innovations.jot.com/WikiHome - currently offers a brief introduction to the e-Innovations programme and offers a page to kick-off debate on the key issue surrounding innovative change, raising its profile across local government, embedding new ways of working and developing a framework for innovation.
At the moment the new site can be freely edited by any visitor.
It is software that has been for a number of years and offers users the freedom to create and update web pages in a way that "encourages democratic use of the internet and promotes content composition by non-technical users."
The most popular example of a Wiki is the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia - http://www.wikipedia.org - that holds hundreds of thousands of factual entries in multiple languages, updated by thousands of people.
Last week, e-Health Insider reported that NHS Direct is proposing to set up an online social care wiki to allow patients to contribute their experiences of coping with illnesses and offer a site to where they can find support and services.
