iPark Singapore, the Southeast Asian arm of the Korean IT Industry Promotion Agency (KIPA), hosted a seminar in Kuala Lumpur for senior government officials.
Building on South Korea's active e-government export promotion efforts in neighbours Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, the event brought together around 50 senior government officials and Korean IT executives, as well as staff from iPark Singapore.
The Korea-Malaysia ICT Forum featured a presentation from Bob Chua, Chief Executive Director of iPark Singapore, introducing attendees to the role of iPark and KIPA, and providing an overview of what Korea's IT industry had to offer Malaysian government agencies.
Chua went on to cite research that showed that 30.5 per cent of Malaysian organisations considered IT to be 'mission critical'. This compared with an average of 21.2 per cent in the Asia Pacific region, and was also higher than in neighbouring Singapore.
Following the presentation from Chua, Frost & Sullivan's Siew Kam Soon made a presentation comparing and contrasting the experience of e-government in Seoul and Kuala Lumpur, as well as the role of national IT planning in both countries.
