Within few months time, the East Godavari district police in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh would mark its presence in the cyber world. All the modalities right from creating infrastructure to the capacity building of the police staff have been almost completed. Vemuganti Naveen Chand, East Godavari Superintendent of Police seems keen to improve the efficiency of the policy force in the district. However, only the time would tell how effective this change over would be in the face of ground realities. It would be interesting to learn how the grassroots people benefit from this e-governance initiative. Also, how far it will contribute to improving the accountability and transparency of policy force remains to be seen.
The strained and tense relationship between police and public is well known in India.
