Save the manuscripts with digital preservation techniques for future generation. Manuscripts are the treasure of our old great heritage. We should use the modern information technology to save manuscripts and other rare materials. This is the outcome of seminar on Digital preservation of Manuscripts and Rare Materials held on 24th Dec. 2005 at Central Library, Banaras Hindu University.
The above 135 professionals (Library Science, Histoty, Museology, History of Arts) participated in the seminar. The Vice - Chancellor of Banaras Hindu Uniersity Prof. Panjab Singh inaugurated the seminar and Prof. Maheswari Prasad was presiding guest.
The seminar was organized in the chairmanship of Prof. H N Prasad (Prof. Incharge, Central Library, BHU) and Dr. Sanjiv Saraf, Deputy Librarian, Central Library, BHU as Organising Secretary.
The main resource persons are Dr. Dilip Rana, Asstt. Director of National Misison for Manuscripts; Dr. A P Gakhar, University Librarian, Allahabad University; Dr. Kamal Kumar Jain and Mr. Achal Pandya of National Museum Institute, New Delhi, Dr. Anupam Jain, Exec. Director, KundKund Gyanpith, Indore.
The conference gets participant from all over India belongs to 12 Universities (i.e.: IIT Kanpur, GMMMCC Chennai, Faizabad University, AMU, SSU, KVP, BHU, LU, Mizoram University) Eight papers presented and slides demonstrated in two technical sessions.
For the valedictory function the Vice Chancellor of UP Rajarshi Tandon Open University Prof. K N S Yadav was the chief guest and Prof. N Samten, Director, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath was presiding guest; Prof. R C Sharma was special guest.
