SANGONET's 'ICTs for Civil Society' conference and exhibition 2006

Although many local conferences these days focus on ICT-related issues, very little dedicated attention is given to the relevance of ICTs to the CSO sector.

The Southern African NGO Network (SANGONeT) will host its second annual "ICTs for Civil Society" Conference and Exhibition from 7-9 March 2006 at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg.

Building on the success of the 2005 event, the next conference will focus specifically on a wide range of new and practical information communication technology (ICT) services, solutions and applications relevant to the work of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Southern Africa.

Embracing and integrating ICT as a tool for communication, organisational development and service delivery represents huge opportunities, as well as challenges, in the process of transforming the South African CSO sector. The challenge for CSOs is to harness the power of ICT in meeting their development goals, and to sustain and expand this interest.

The objectives of the 2006 conference will be to learn more about the day-to-day experiences of CSOs in applying and adopting ICT, as well as to profile and demonstrate relevant and practical applications, which could further strengthen the impact of their work. The conference will have a strong focus on free and open source issues and applications.

SANGONeT invites anyone interested in participating in the event, as a speaker or participant, to register their interest by contacting - info@sangonet.org.za

SANGONeT welcomes information on case studies, technology solutions, practical applications, etc. which could be incorporated into the conference programme. You are also invited to highlight specific issues which you would like to be incorporated into the conference programme. Visit the Conference website for guidelines.

The conference programme will consist of a combination of plenary sessions, breakaway and training sessions, and practical technology demonstrations.

The conference is aimed at senior staff and technical employees in the CSO sector as well as individuals who work with these organisations, including international funding agencies, the private sector and government.

Approximately 300 people will attend the event.

We look forward to your participation in this important civil society event.
