The Centre for Good Governance (CGG) in Andhra Pradesh has been selected by the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) and the Union government for implementing the Capacity Building for Access to Information project.The project cost is about Rs 7 crore.
The project will operate in 12 states, including Andhra Pradesh, involving 24 districts all over India. CGG will play the role of the National Implementing Agency (NIA) for capacity building for officials, civil society organisations and peoples groups to enable people to exercise their Right to Information.
According to a CGG press release here on Friday, the project components include training of about 5,000 people at the state and district level, research and documentation, mass awareness campaign, documentation of best practices, using Right to Information to improve public service delivery and developing a networking of institutions and professionals supporting
implementation of Right to Information in the country.
A two-day workshop was conducted by CGG on December 29-30 to plan the launch of the project. Representatives from UNDP, Government of India and senior officers from Andhra Pradesh, Uttranchal, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chattishgarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala participated in the workshop to prepare the national plan for the project implementation.
The project will be implemented over a period of three years. More districts and states will be added as the project proceeds.
