The 10th edition of the South African Health Review, has the major theme of Human Resources for Health (HRH). South Africa has made significant progress in producing policies supportive of a good quality of health for all residents. However, there are challenges and gaps in translating these policies into action. Probably the most important of these challenges is the lack of adequate human resources. This report consists of 17 chapters focusing on various related issues. One of the chapters highlights the siginificance and importance of Information for Human Resource Management (HRM).
This chapter emphasises the need for a routine information system for
HRM. It provides an assessment of the current information system for HRM using a case study approach. It also outlines a suggested approach for the development of a Routine Information System with an Essential Data Set for HRM. Finally, it provides an overview of proposed indicators to produce information for the management and monitoring of Human Resources for the health sector. This chapter can be downloaded here.
