Chandigarh Police becomes the first police organisation in India to introduce SMS facility at the police station-level. Through this new service residents can get the status of complaint submitted at the public window and passport application status on their cell-phone.
All a resident needs to do is type the passport application number given by the Regional Passport Office and the public window application number, and message it to 8888. A reply about the status would be sent on the residents mobile within minutes.
On the anvil is a proposal to introduce a Common Integrated Police Application system.
