The APRON Observatory provides a secure, high-tech environment for stakeholders from Europe's aviation sector to come together and share information with the aim of encouraging increased cooperation.
Aviation is an important industry facilitating the transport of goods and passengers. It involves a wide range of stakeholders that often have conflicting objectives. In an attempt to foster collaboration among the various actors at the European level and spur growth of the industry, the APRON project was sponsored by the GROWTH Programme.
APRON targeted the establishment of an airport observatory network. The network is supported by a platform allowing the stakeholders to exchange information and to perform online analyses and simulations. Functioning as an information portal, the APRON Observatory employs the latest communications technologies. For instance, a web forum provides the context for exchange of ideas.
Databases constructed from stakeholder input as well as other sources are available, housing not just raw data but also analyses of this data. Access rights are managed by the APRON Advisory Group and provided according to a hierarchical structure influenced by the contribution of the particular user.
