THE PRIVATE sector in the Philippines remains a strong force that influences information and communications policies in the Philippines, a report by a global non-government organization leading a campaign on communication rights said.
"Information and communications policy making in the Philippines has been traditionally uneven in recent years. Although a public-private advisory council was organized in the area of ICT policy developmentĀunder the defunct Information Technology and E-Commerce Council, its advisory character placed limits on its effectiveness," a country report by the Platform for Communications Rights (PCR) said.
The PCR is leading a global campaign, now known as the Communication Rights in the Information Society (CRIS), that seeks to ensure that communication rights are central to the information society and to the upcoming World Summit to the Information Society.
