Malaysian journalists planned to attend a weekend workshop on freedom of information and proposed legal reforms to improve access. The workshop was scheduled for January 14 and 15 at Shah Village Hotel in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
The local Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ) organized the workshop to highlight basic principles of freedom of information. These include maximum disclosure, minimal exemptions, open government and meetings, and the protection of whistleblowers.
