The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stepped up efforts to go in for large scale e-governance with a total investment of Rs 100 crore during next fiscal. However, the corporation, whose annual budget of Rs 8,000 crore is more than that of Kerala as a whole, would spend Rs 70 crore for the same purpose in the current fiscal.
Under the plan, Geographical Information System, Global Positioning System, Voice Over Internet Protocol, web-enabled em-ail system, ERP solutions, Biometric Access Control System (BACS) will soon be a part of e-governance.
BMC will also set up a central data centre at Worli in south-central Mumbai. The civic body has outsourced this job to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which will install the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for networking the integrated computers at all BMC offices.
