ICT is the “cement” that holds the future of mankind together

Managing Director and Chief Executive of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr Jim Ovia, has vowed to ensure the development of information and communication technology(ICT) in the country.

Speaking while accepting his appointment as chairman of the National Information Technology Advisory Committee (NITAC) by the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Turner Isoun, in Abuja on Tuesday, Ovia identified ICT as the “cement” that holds the future of mankind together.

According to him, ICT had become an integral part of society as they communicate with other devices and people. He also noted that performing efficient information processing and other tasks beyond human imagination had become possible with ICT.

“Indeed, it is now believed that information technology is the cement that holds the future of mankind together – making it the ‘centre of gravity’ of the human universe,” the Zenith Bank chief said.

“The effects on future society are not yet fully apparent, but it is certain that they will be very profound and breath-taking. Therefore, let us prepare Nigeria for the knowledge Olympiad,” he urged.

Ovia said he saw his appointment as a honour and a call to duty, thanking other members of the committee and the minister for the recognition, saying “we shall ensure the development of ICT in Nigeria".
