The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has begun series of ICT training for journalists and judges as key stakeholders in the development of the telecommunication sector. The workshop for judges involved brainstorming sessions on legal issues in the sector while the media practitioners were exposed to various practical ICT rudiments that would improve their work.
Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Ernest Ndukwe said the workshop and training were organised to improve the ICT knowledge base in the country. He said the regulatory body established an intellectual and academic arm, Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) in 2004, to carry out research and provide manpower to the sector.
The journalists, who were drawn from Enugu and Abuja had three days training at the institute on technical, economic and other professional applications of ICT. Ndukwe said the media was key to development of the country and their knowledge base in ICT would help in their investigations, transmissions and publications.
