The radio receivers are made for emergency situation, equipped with a dynamo-fed device generating recharge current for the battery unit by simply turning the handle control; in other words they do not need normal battery.
Sudir Amin is one of the refugees living in a barrack in Leupung, a small village about 30 kilometers west of Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh province. He lost his parents and three siblings in the Tsunami that hit his village on 26 December 2004. In the barrack, the 28 year old bachelor met a soul mate, Hamidah, whom he married on 25 January 2006 in a humble ceremony, staged in a small wooden common hall. There are about 175 families living in the same barrack as Sudir. Most of them attended his wedding.
One of the most unforgettable presents for Sudir might be a radio receiver from UNESCO. Just a day before the wedding, UNESCO representatives visited the barrack to give away more than 60 radio receivers to the refugees living there.
