Allahabad University (AU) is going to host the Indian Association of Teacher Educators' (IATE) 39th annual conference on ‘Professionalism in Teacher Education in the context of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Knowledge Economy and Globalisation’ all set to kick off on February 10.
The two-day event will be inaugurated at the AU Senate Hall by the Chairman of NCTE Prof S K Thakur while the former Dean and Head of Central Institute of Education Prof R N Mehrotra will deliver the keynote address. AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe will preside over the inaugural function.
Informing about the theme of the event, conference secretary P K Sahoo informed that there has been a tremendous change in the knowledge system and the process of acquisition of learning experiences in the age of ICT, Knowledge Economy and Globalisation.
"The nature of schooling, curriculum, teaching learning process and its management have been witnessing a paradigm shift in this context. Teacher education which is one of the significant components of educational reforms need to reshape its vision and operational strategies keeping in view the emerging challenges in teaching profession and education system in general.
It is high time to think openly with a broad framework of education on various issues concerning the existing status of teacher education and its relevance in shaping the future of school system," he said.
"This conference shall therefore focus on themes like professionalism and curriculum framework for teacher education, values in teacher education, scenario of teacher education in the knowledge economy, curriculum transaction in development of teacher competencies, development of teacher competencies through open and distance learning mode, empowerment of teachers in ICT based teaching, liberalisation and quality control in teacher preparation, collaborations and networking in teacher education," he said.
Conference joint secretary Dhananjai Yadav informed that around 300 delegates including educationists, administrators and researchers from India and abroad shall present papers on the occasion.
Award of Distinguished Teacher Educator, shall also be conferred during the conference on eminent educationists including Prof Krishna Kumar, Director, NCERT, Prof MB Menon, Special Advisor, Commonwealth of Learning, Canada, Prof SP Malhotra, Dean, Kurukshetra University, Prof Jagannath Mohanty, Utkal University, Orissa and Prof PC Saxena, University of Allahabad.
Dhananjai Yadav said that the formal conference programme consists of plenary keynotes by eminent teacher educators under Prof TKN Menon Memorial Lecture Series and Prof SN Mukherjee Memorial Lecture Series besides parallel sessions, workshops and exhibitions.
Eminent personalities and teacher educators including Professor MB Menon, Prof SK Thakur, Prof DN Sansanwal, Director, IDE, Indore, Prof LC Singh, NCERT, present and former vice chancellors of a number of universities of the country shall present their views on the focal theme.
As may as 20 parallel sessions shall be organised for presentation of around 200 papers on different related sub-themes of the conference besides special workshops on ICT education and teacher preparation.
Special exhibitions on themes like environmental education and Sathya Sai Value Education, besides a display of books and journals has also been planned.
