An on-going series of one-week journalism courses will include as many as 200 Ugandan radio journalists. The Uganda Radio Network, which launched on November 1, is training the journalists.
The training courses cover basic and advanced reporting and editing skills. The U.K.-based Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) launched the radio network with two purposes: to provide stories and sound bites to radio stations across the country, and to provide quality training to radio journalists.
A consortium of European countries including Belgium, Denmark, Great Britain and several Scandinavian countries are sponsoring the program.
Each one-week training session includes up to 10 participants. So far, nearly 100 journalists have participated since the launch of the network. IWPR also produced a handbook for the advanced radio course.
