The Science and technology minister of India, Kapil Sibal on Saturday announced institution of a new rural technological development award, recognising contribution in the field of rural development. The award of Rs 10 lakh would be given to a scientist for his contribution in rural development, Mr Sibal, said.
Reiterating the resolve of the UPA government towards rural development for achieving its goal of Bharat Nirman, Mr Sibal said the Centre aimed at providing better facilities related to power, irrigation, potable water, roads, education, health, improved seeds and fertilisers for the integrated development of the villages.
