Technology-based agriculture training for teachers in Philippines

The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) and the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) are planning to conduct technology-based agriculture training for teachers through specially equipped buses in Regions XI and XII as part of the Department of AgricultureÂ’s Open Academy program. An important part of the program is the development of multimedia content covering planting and breeding programs for various crops and rice. The content will be translated from English to local dialects. While UEP will develop CD-based e-learning modules, USM will provide multimedia experts to train the teachers.

The DA Open Academy will also upgrade the USMÂ’s geographic information system center, which will provide data processing and mapping services for Mindanao. Both schools will also be involved in the ICT caravan and will implement a drive to train all extension personnel in Regions XI and XII in the use of technology to improve crop production.
