Radio station attacked in Pakistan tribal region

Unidentified men have blown up the antenna of a government radio station in Pakistan's South Waziristan tribal region, halting its transmission, officials in the region said today. The government has set up the radio station to convey its policy against Taliban and al-Qaida suspects, who are believed to be hiding in the region, close to Afghanistan.

The attack on Sunday night was the second on the radio station in Wana, the headquarters of South Waziristan tribal region. The first bomb attack was carried out in 2004, a few days after the station started its transmission. Officials said that the blast did not cause much damage to the radio building but the blast led to the suspension of the transmission. They said that the repair work may take three to four days.
