Drishti Media Collective and Video Volunteers are hiring Video Trainers/Project Coordinators

About Video Volunteers: Video Volunteers is a media for empowerment organization based in New York, with Drishti Media Collective in Ahmedabad as its partner in India. We set up Community Video Units, in which 4-8 community members produce Monthly Video News Magazines to screen in their communities to accelerate social change. In 2006, Video Volunteers will be starting ten Community Video Units (CVUs) in ten different locations in India. We are also launching an initiative to create a Global Social Media Network to give a voice to the poor through the mainstream and local media. To achieve these goals, we are expanding our India staff.

About the Trainer/Project Coordinator position: Each Community Video Unit has a full-time trainer/coordinator working on-site at an NGO with the Community Producers. The job will entail training community members in all aspects of video production in a participatory manner and ensuring that one video is produced each month.

This is a job for video journalism-style filmmakers. Successful applicants will be trained at Drishti in the strategic uses of video, and will likely have the opportunity to work with NGOs around the world, including in Africa and South America, in the 2nd year of their employment. This is a great opportunity for filmmakers interested in being part of the global movement to democratize media and wishing to work with NGOs and to use their skills to affect social change. Because at least 12 videos are produced over the course of the year, this is a great way to expand the reel of your work.

Language: The staff trainers will need to be conversant in at least one Indian language. However, those without language skills can volunteer for two-three months.

Job Requirements:

--Must be able to shoot, write and edit your own videos
--Must have strong creative and storytelling abilities
--teaching or training experience a plus
--Human rights or community experience a plus
--Must be able to submit a video reel with examples of your work
--Must be willing to relocate to one of the project sites for one year. NOTE: up to half the project sites are in rural areas or small towns

Job start date:
2 projects start May 1st, 2 in June, rolling after that

How to apply:

Please send a resume and cover letter, along with 3 references, expected salary, and the date you are available to start to drishtiad1@gmail.comno later than April 15th.
