IICDs mission is to assist developing countries in the use of ICT as a strategic tool for sustainable development and poverty alleviation. IICD does this through empowering local organisations and stakeholders to make effective use of ICTs on their own terms, and through catalysing lessons learned and knowledge sharing on ICTs by local organisations and the international community.
The position we seek to fill is: Officer Knowledge Sharing
As Knowledge Sharing Officer you will be responsible for IICD's local information exchange and networking activities in one or two developing countries. To start with this will be Burkina Faso. You will advise and facilitate networks of local partner organisations on the sharing of experiences, and in awareness raising and lobbying for the use of ICT for development. You need to be a team player, have good multi-cultural 'people' skills, and a results-oriented approach.
Your main tasks and activities for this position will be:
* Advise and facilitate local networks of partner organisations in the sharing of ICT for development experiences amongst information network partners;
* Advise and facilitate local networks on awareness creation and lobbying on ICT enabled development;
* Advise partner organisations on influencing local and national policymakers;
* Lobby with policymakers at national and sector level on ICT4D policy;
* Report directly to the Team Leader Country Programmes and inform the Country Manager on country-related issues.
In order to establish and maintain networks the following competences are required:
* A relationship builder and therefore be more an enabler than a manager;
* Ability to initiate and maintain a diversity of relations in Southern countries with Government agencies, NGOs and grass-root organisations;
* Ability to develop and manage personal and professional relationships;
* Ability to rally personal relationships to initiate & maintain joint activities
For this position you must fulfil the following requirements:
* Fluency in English and French (Spanish is a plus);
* Two years experience with or in developing countries;
* Skilled in basic ICT applications (Microsoft Office, Internet, graphics - ICDL level);
* In possession of EU work permit.
Expertise in one or more of the following will be considered an asset:
* Experience with policy development;
* Writing abilities/experiences.
IICD employs about 32 staff from its headquarters in The Hague. The working atmosphere is informal and management seeks to encourage teamwork and mutual learning. While you will operate out of a small team, you need to be willing to take on full responsibility for assigned tasks. You must be open to learn, with a focus on flexibility. This is a fulltime position and you must be willing to travel about 30-40% of the time.
