About 20,000 students pursuing technical education in Orissa would be able to avail education through satellite.
The State Directorate of Technical Education and Training (DTET) has entered into an agreement with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in this connection and has deposited Rs 1 crore to secure the transmitter that would provide uplinking facilities to as many as 80 technical institutions in the State.
For uplinking to Edusat (education through satellite), technical colleges would have to have satellite interactive terminals (SITs). The State Government would provide these SITs free of cost to Government-run colleges. This facility is expected to take off from August first week.
