Shortage of IT teachers hits colleges hard

It's a paradox all right. Thanks to the boom in the IT and electronics sectors, engineering colleges offering these subjects have hordes of students queuing up at their door and companies awaiting graduates with plump paychecks. But thanks partly to the latter, colleges are facing a drought of teachers, leading in some cases to the reduction of seats. At a time when the industry is increasingly demandingmore talent, the shortage of faculty members is affecting the students' intake. Alook at the last three years' figures shows that seats in streams like computer science and engineering, IT, computer technology, electronics and communication and electronics engineering in state colleges have been reduced on account of the non-availability of teachers.
