TDSAT quashes VSNL plea against Trai, DoT

The telecom dispute settlement appellate tribunal (TDSAT) has rejected VSNL’s petition against Trai and DoT and held that long distance calling cards sold by the company was illegal. VSNL’s long distance calling cards enabled any subscriber to make an ISD call using a toll free number.
On March 21, 2005, telecom regulator Trai asked the VSNL to stop long distance calling cards on the ground that VSNL is getting direct access to the consumers, which was against the licence condition.
