Grassroots Options, Northeast India’s first magazine on people, environment & development published since September 1994, is online now. This is an independent media initiative of a group of working journalists based in northeastern region of India. Each journalist either attached with a newspaper or a freelancer, volunteers time and resources to produce this magazine. The magazine mainly focuses on three key areas - people, environment and development – in Northeast India, and its neighbouring Eastern Himalayan and the Asian region that share unique geo-political history and socio-cultural affinities. We have tried to keep the magazine alive, despite the perennial resource crunch. So far we have produced 24 issues, and the last printed issue was Spring 2005. All this was possible because of the unflinching support of hundreds of friends, subscribers and Life Members who helped us thus far. Printing a quality magazine is an expensive idea. It involves constant dose of funds to replenish a corpus, which we failed to raise. As a result, the magazine became irregular. Internet opened up to us a new opportunity for the rejuvenation of the magazine. It is cheaper and has unlimited space and reach. Internet also offers us a global readership.
