The school has adopted a course management system called Moodle. There are more than 10,000 Moodle sites in 147 countries.
Piloted at BHS in September it soon spread among the curriculum subjects and now supports more than 70 individual courses with teaching resources available on demand at home and school.
Steve Dowdall, head of information communication technology, said: 'The advantages of using a virtual learning environment is that learners can access all lesson resources in school or at home. They can complete work and take interactive tests which provide instant feedback.
Parents are able to look at their child's work and progress, reading teachers' feedback on work.'
Linked to Moodle, BHS has also started podcasting, or Ballacasting as it's known in the school.
Mr Dowdall explained: 'It was introduced by the ICT faculty as a means of delivering GCSE revision, through the medium of MP3 players, which the majority of students own and use daily.
'The Ballacasts are produced by the school and downloaded from Moodle, allowing students to listen to revision material at any time.'
Head teacher Adrienne Burnett added: 'The school has always been a pioneer in the use of ICT technology.
