GKP @ launch of UN GAID
|
On 19 June 2006, the United Nations launched the Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Development (GAID) at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Representation from the United Nations included Deputy Secretary General Mark Malloch Brown and Assistant Secretary General K. S. Jomo. The GKP Secretariat and a group of GKP Members witnessed the event, and also participated in the 2-day meeting, expecting to not only gain more clarity on the UNs goals and plans for this new initiative, but also to assess the value proposition, potential impact, opportunities for engagement as well as synergies. GKP Executive Director Rinalia Abdul Rahim chaired the closing session of the meeting where Sarbuland Khan, Executive Coordinator of the GAID Secretariat, confirmed that GAID is modelled after GKP and that it seeks collaboration with GKP. GKP offered its 3rd Global Knowledge Conference - An 'Event On The Future' in December 2007 focusing on "Emerging People, Emerging Markets and Emerging Technologies" - as a platform and opportunity for GAID and its stakeholders to measure progress and impact, 18 months into GAIDs operation.
