Social Edge, the online community for social entrepreneurs and an initiative of the Skoll Foundation, has been selected to be the online component of the Global Social Benefit Incubator at Santa Clara University, in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Starting immediately, social entrepreneurs around the world will have to apply online to attend the Global Social Benefit Incubator in August 2007. The 15 best candidates will receive a full scholarship.
The award, which covers tuition, room and board for the two-week intensive immersion program focused on venture planning, business models and successful scaling, is valued at US $20,000 for each selected candidate.
The invited social benefit entrepreneurs will need to demonstrate their commitment to applying technology to address urgent human needs throughout the world. In the past, participants have come from Costa Rica, India, Namibia, the Philippines, Rwanda, Argentina, Costa Rica, India, Jordan,
Laos, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Canada and the United States.
The Programme
The Global Social Benefit Incubator (GSBI) provides an intensive two-week residential program at Santa Clara University that enables successful technology innovators to scale their endeavors and achieve sustainability.
Presented by the University's Center for Science, Technology, and Society and the Leavey School of Business Administration, the GSBI offers the unique context of a Jesuit university dedicated to social justice combined with leading resources from Silicon Valley.
During the two-week in residence program, to take place in early August, participants will develop know-how in critical areas of business planning, including technology and service innovation, target marketing, business models, finance and organizational capacity building.
