Symposium On Application of Remote Sensing & GIS in Natural
Resource Management Management of natural resources needs
accurate and reliable assessment tools to understand and visualize environmental inter-relationships. It also involves
integration of peopleÂ’s expectations and ecological capabilities for minimizing the differences between resource demand and
availability.

The advancement in remote sensing techniques, geo spatial analysis and geographic information system (GIS) tools have contributed in bringing simplicity in natural resource assessment, planning and management.

The area specific information about the resource base can be categorized into several layers like land, water, vegetation (crop and forest), socio-economic & demographic data and infrastructure facilities & services. Integration of this diverse set of information within a framework involves bringing these
together from variety of sources with varying spatio-temporal scale, effectively matching of similar entities and maintaining
consistency of information across the database sets for the desired output.

GIS being multidisciplinary in nature brings synergy between various data sets like conventional datasets, computerized
database and applications, computer science, graphical processing, statistics, cartography, photogrammetry, remote sensing etc. It offers an integrated analysis and transforms
the data into the required information for planners and decision makers for monitoring and managing natural resources.

Remote Sensing is the major and primary source of input database for GIS, thereby providing an accurate and latest backdrop of the situation on the ground relating natural
resources.

The advent of high-resolution satellite images, along with Global Positioning System (GPS), would enable the generation
of detailed cartographic database with digital terrain models leading to engineering solutions to complex problems involved in micro-level development. It includes watershed planning and prioritization, parcel based land resources information system,
tank information system, canal alignment, command area studies, crop condition monitoring and its acreage & production
estimation, water resource and quality assessment, vulnerable analysis of change in climate, forest health mapping and land use planning.

Objective: The objective of Symposium is to impart the knowledge on the application of geo-spatial technology in Natural Resource Management.

Theme:

· Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS are the latest tool in geosciences, which have been widely used to understand various dimensions of natural resources development and
management in order to carry out development plans without affecting the present state of environment.

· It is believed that the participants of the Symposium would discuss and interact with the experts and coparticipants
on the latest development and the applicability of these tools on various facets of resource development and management.

· Within the domain of NRM, major focus will be RS and GIS
application in the field of "Water, Land, Agriculture, Forestry and Soil" at micro level situation.

Programme: The programme is planned for a day. It will start at 9:30 am till 5:30pm
