South Asian Livelihood Film Festival

Centre for Civil Society in association with Youth Parliament is inviting to participate in annual Jeevika: South Asia Livelihood Documentary Festival from July 20-23, 2007 at the India Habitat Centre, Delhi.

Jeevika showcases films which focus on peoples' struggles in earning a living in a vocation of their choice. Experience 26 documentary films that depict legal and regulatory restrictions as well as social-cultural norms and religious practices that prevent or constrain people from earning an honest living in the vocation of their choice.

We received over 128 entries from students and professional filmmakers from various countries including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh. 40 of these entries are student productions. These films have captured the forms of livelihoods, unusual and unheard of in regular mainstream discourses: animal rights vs human rights, street children, ear-cleaners, snake charmers, toddy tappers, honey collectors, potters and horse-cart pullers.

Festival Highlights

Smt Shiela Dikshit (Hon Chief Minister, New Delhi), Mr P Chidamabram (Hon Finance Minister, Government of India) , Mr Ajay Make(Minister of State, Urban Development, GOI) , Mr Prashant Bhushan (Supreme Court Advocate, Social Activists), Ms Renana Jhabvala (National Coordinator, SEWA Bharat), Mr CR Jayasinghe (Sri Lankan High Commissioner), speak for cause of livelihood freedom at the Inaugural & Award Ceremony.

Inaugural Ceremony: July 20 at Stein Auditorium, (6-9pm). Don't miss the stage play on the issue of Livelihood by Manzil Welfare Society

Screenings of Films: July 21-22 at Casurina Hall, Delhi (9- 6 pm)

Award Ceremony:
July 23 at Stein Auditorium, (6-9pm). Rock band performance on the issue of livelihood by Manzil Welfare Society

Screenings across various colleges, institutes and schools across Delhi from July 23-August 23.At most venues, the screenings will be open for public viewing.
