The eINDIA 2007 Conference which was held in Hotel Taj Palace, Newldi (India) during 31 July, 2007 to 3 August, 2007 ended with the i4d Award 2007. Seven ICT-based projects from various part of India earned the i4d Awards, for their contribution in the areas of digital literacy, electronic governance etc.
After a hectic process of two around of deliberation, seven jury member of i4d were able to extract seven nominations to be awarded in various categories. The i4d awards were given during the valedictory session held on 2nd August, 2007. National Informatics Centre (NIC), Bihar, All India Society for Electronics and Computer Technology (AISECT), Madhya Pradesh and Akshaya project of Kerala IT Mission received the i4d Award of Voters' Choice.
AISECT project aims at setting up Multipurpose I.T. Centres, specially at Panchayats, Blocks and District levels. Over 5000 such centers have been set up in 29 states in the country. The methodology of the project, first presented in IIM- A/World Bank workshop, is now a part of most rural ICT initiatives in the country. It was also presented in the I4D workshop in Kualalumpur.
Under the project simple online or offline Multipurpose Centres are set up at grass roots level and are networked, to provide Training, Maintenance and Information services. A National Resource Centre at Bhopal, provides technological, software and content support.
