Microsoft began with a dream of a PC on every desk and in every home. Thirty years ago this seemed impossible.
Today, for the more than one billion people weve reached, life has changed profoundly: information is more readily available; connections are more easily made; commerce is more quickly achieved; and success is closer than ever. But for more than five billion people, the opportunity to learn, connect, create, and succeed remains elusive.
Building on decades of business experience, research and development, corporate citizenship efforts, and an ecosystem of local and global partnerships, Microsoft has learned that there are very real barriers to effectively reaching these underserved communities.
Some cannot benefit from technology for environmental or infrastructural reasons. Others cannot take advantage of technology because it is not in their language or related to their specific needs. A great many simply cannot afford it.
Microsoft's Unlimited Potential program will expand its efforts with new business models, technology solutions, and advanced research, all focused on solving critical pieces of the economic development puzzle in developing and developed countries, with particular emphasis to young people, as they represent the future of all communities.
This combination of advanced technologies and strong partnerships with governments, partners, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), educators, and academics takes an innovative approach to enabling new avenues of social and economic empowerment.
Unlimited Potential is focused on delivering relevant, accessible and affordable solutions in three interrelated areas that are crucial to developing economic opportunity: education; local innovation and enabling jobs.
