The Department of Education in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is introducing IT hobby centres in 24 schools during the summer vacation for the students from class VI to XII, free of cost.
The main objective of the centre is to create awareness among school students about the computer and its usage in teaching-learning process so that they can derive benefit of information and communication technology in their daily life and in education.
The department plans to achieve the target of 100% IT literacy in schools.
According to the department, this facility will be available in Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Model school in Port Blair, GSSS Bhathubasti, GSSS Port Mout, GSSS Wimberlygunj, GSSS Ferrargunj, GSSS Oralkatcha, GSSS Pahalgaon, GSSS Kalighat, GSSS Neil Island and GSS Kamorta.
Other schools include GSSS Swarajgram & DIET in Garacharama, GSSS RBV in Port Blair, GSSS Haddo (Hindi), GSSS Manglutan, GSSS Rangachang, GSSS Havelock-3, GSSS Garacharama, GSSS Sabari, GSSS Swadesh Nagar, GSSS R.K. Pur in Little Andaman, GSSS Mannarghat, GSSS Tusnabad and GSSS Kadamtala.
The facility of IT hobby centre can be availed by registering names in these schools on or before May 1, 2008 for the schools of Headquarter, South Andaman and Nicobar District and May 15, 2008 for schools of Middle Andaman and North Andaman.
The classes will commence from May 2, 2008 for first spell and May 16, 2008 for second spell, respectively.
