Global telecom summit

Growing at an average rate of above 40%, the Indian telecom sector has witnessed doubling of revenues in the last three years. The total numbers of subscribers have already crossed the figure of 270 million.

More than 350 new applications have been received seeking Universal Access Service License (UASL) at the end of 2007.

Though, the Indian Telecom Sector is the third largest in the world and second largest among the emerging economies of Asia, there are many areas where special consideration has to be given.

To look into some of key issues concerning the Indian telecom sector, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) is organising 4th Global Telecom Summit on May 23-24, 2008 in New Delhi, India to understand the emergence of new growth drivers that are revolutionising the telecom sector in India and around the world.

India had targeted 20 million broadband connections by 2010, but at present there are about only 3 million connections.

Emerging applications like Video on Mobile, Mobisodes are trying to come in a big way but due to uncertainty of spectrum, its growth is a big question. Rural telephony is still a big challenge. Huge investments are being lined up for expanding further the Indian telecom industry.

This global summit will offer an opportunity to telecom experts to exchange views on a host of issues concerning telecom industry such as the challenges for growth of telecom industry.
