Kids’ corner for a greener world

www.kidsrgreen.org (also known as kidsRgreen, kRg) is a monthly online magazine for children who love exploring, enquiring, investigating and discovering the world.

Developed and run by Centre for Environment Education, Ahmedabad, India, this interactive website facilitates and supports learning about the environment, and for the environment. It takes children beyond classroom and textbooks by encouraging hands-on approach of engagement.

The website has been shortlisted for the final rounds of the prestigious Stockholm Challenge Award 2008.

The Stockholm Challenge promotes ICT for development with a six category award given in culture, economic development, education, environment, health and public administration.

Established in 1984, Centre for Environment Education is a national Institute engaged in improving public awareness and understanding of environmental issues with a view to promote the conservation and wise use of nature and natural resources.

In this digital age, efforts like this children website can go a long way in instilling right ideas in our future generation, making them more aware of man-made crisis like global warming, climate change, depleting green cover, increasing pollution, diminishing ozone layer etc.

kidsRgreen is an initiative that aims to derive the benefits of computer literacy by mainstreaming the use of websites as educational resources and introduce educational websites as integral to teaching-learning in formal, non-formal and informal learning situations.

It envisions disseminating information and knowledge, enhancing skills, fostering appropriate attitudes and values, and sharing action ideas and initiatives, through the internet medium—all of which are critical and integral to environmental education and learning for sustainable development.

This exclusive online monthly environmental magazine has many interesting features.

Spaceship Earth
talks about an interesting aspect of planet earth. Key points supported by illustrations help to explore different environments, plant and animal life, and learn about systems that support the rich life on earth.

In the Green Games section, children can logon and play games that not just challenge skills and abilities but set one thinking, and at the end convey an environmental message.

The Let's Do It section gives simple do-it-yourself activity ideas.

The Celebrate a Day section has a calendar of environmentally significant days, giving a brief history or background of why the day is observed including some ideas for activities that would help anyone to observe these days with in school or with family and friends.

The Krg Club is a forum where children can share poems, paintings and thoughts on the environment. It is a chance to let other children in the world know more about oneself and what one does to improve the environment

The Green Gifts section has attractive downloadable offers such as selecting designs for personalised stationery like letterheads, visiting cards, and bookmarks.
