Taliban bans girls' education in northwest Pakistan

Nearly 40,000 girls will be kept out of schools in the Swat valley if a ban by militants takes effect from Januray 15 on grounds that they do not abide by the teachings of Islam. Educationists fear the Taliban’s threats will undo all progress made in educating girls.
