The report was released on the country's 36th Independence Day on 26th March 2007.

05.03.2007 The Indian government has initiated the registration of plant varieties with the Protection of Plant Variety and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV&FRA) to provide them globally-recognised protection against piracy. The government plans to register 12 varieties of crop that will provide protection to farmers and farm communities to evolve, preserve and refine crop varieties.

Indian farmers burn genetically modified crop
