Hace escasos meses una nueva sigla comenzó a aparecer en los medios de comunicación: ALBA. A primera vista, una 'B' desplazaba a la ya conocida 'C' del ALCA. Pero no se trataba de un simple cambio de letra. La Alternativa Bolivariana para América Latina y El Caribe (ALBA) aparecía como una propuesta de integración diferente a la ya conocida Área de Libre Comercio para las Américas (ALCA).

A scientific breakthrough from an international team of researchers is being described as "a very important contribution to the arsenal of existing methods to combat malaria." The new method could reduce the transfer of the disease by up to 98 percent and can be cheaply produced, giving hope to developing countries where the disease is endemic.
