29.04.2005 The April 19 conference of NEPAD, the partnership of African countries working to improve governance and encourage foreign aid and investment, was poorly attended and did not release key reports as promised. Professor John Stremlau of South Africa's University of Witwatersrand counsels patience, however, noting that several African states are making positive strides on the path to greater accountability.

26.04.2005 Spain has joined the troupe of European countries moving towards equal rights for gay and lesbian couples as its legislature began the process to legalize same-sex marriage. The law would afford same-sex couples the same pension, inheritance, and adoption rights currently enjoyed by heterosexual couples.

Llamada a través de una radio local, la ciudadanía, espontáneamente, empezó a salir a las calles. Lo hacía con cacerolas, tarros y tablas. Desde los automóviles hacía sonar las bocinas.
