Kansainvälinen televiestintäliitto on julkaissut maailmanlaajuisen, informaatio- ja kommunikaatioteknologian saatavuutta kansalaisille mittaavan tutkimuksensa tulokset, ja ne ovat osin yllättävät: Slovenia kiilaa Ranskan ohitse, Etelä-Korea sijoittuu neljänneksi koko maailmassa, Suomi kahdeksanneksi. Luokituksessa huomioitiin muiden mittarien ohella mm. koulutus ja IT-teknologian kalleus.

Järjestyksessä kolmas vuosittainen Linux Bangalore-tapahtuma pidetään Intiassa 2.-3. joulukuuta. Tapahtuman takana eivät ole kaupalliset yritykset vaan maailmanlaajuinen, avointa ja vapaata lähdekoodia kehittävä hakkeriyhteisö. Avoimen lähdekoodin ohjelmien toivotaan hyödyttävän erityisesti köyhiä maita, sillä ne ovat ilmaisia ja niitä saa vapaasti muokata käyttötarkoituksiinsa sopiviksi.
