Intian lapsista jopa lähes 80 prosenttia kärsii raudan puutteen aiheuttamsta anemiasta, samoin kuin yli puolet alle 50-vuotiaista vaimoista. National Family Health Surveyn tekemän tutkimuksen mukaan anemia on yleisintä Assamin osavaltiossa, jossa yli 70 prosenttia 15-49-vuotiaista naisista kärsi anemiasta. Tutkijoiden mukaan naisten heikko asema, huono ravinto ja kallis terveydenhuolto selittävät anemian yleisyyttä.

Intian koululaitos ei ole pysynyt kehityksen tahdissa, eikä maan opetus vastaa nykymaailman tarpeita. Intian tulisi uudistaa radikaalisti koulutusjärjestelmäänsä, jotta se pystyisi kohtaamaan tulevaisuuden haasteet sekä ratkaisemaan vanhat perusongelmat.
